Growing Up Spiritually: Posted 7/5/2007
Part of the process of growing up spiritually is there comes a point where our faith truly becomes our own. We follow Christ not because of someone else but also not because of any benefits that we’ve received. It’s simply because of who he is.

There’s a process God begins to take us through where he starts knocking the blocks out from under us and we think “that’s so cruel and so horrible” but that’s what God has to do at times. Look at Jesus in John 6. He just walked on water and fed 5,000 people and then he launches into the real cost of following him. These people look at him and think that all the cool stuff was great but don’t want to deal with the hard parts and leave. And instead of Jesus saying, stop I’ll make it easier, he turns to his disciples and says, “So, you leaving too?”

They respond, “Where would we go, your words have eternal life?”

THAT is what it means to really make your faith your own. It can’t be a means to an end or to please someone else. Where it truly becomes what you truly believe because there is no other place to go.
